what is the correct fingering for the chords that are like [x13331] or [x35553] I am not sure of them, and have a very hard time getting to them quickly.

the proper fingers for a chord like (x13331) will be like this x12341 -o---o --ooo- ------ ------ ------

yes, use your index (pointy) finger to bar the lowest notes, in a situation like that...in that case, you bar your index finger on all the strings on the 1st fret, then you use your remaining fingers to fret the 3rd fret notes.
