Can you explain what the little letters mean? All the "H's" and such that tell you how to play a certain note or chord.

ok, i guess that the little letters you are talking about are "H" and "P" these stand for "hamer-on" and "pull-off" These techniques are essential for your playing. Try to get some info on these, it┤s kind of hard to explain these techiques in a non-graphical way. i hope these helped you a little bit
