Question

Asked by eli on 1999-11-16
Why do the fourth and fifth intervals have diminished, augmented and perfect. It seems as though these labels just add an extra name for the intervals of 4, 6 and 8 semitones. Thank you.

well eli, the fourth and fifth intervals have dim. aug. and perfect because of their relation within the key to the root. as a sugestion to your study, check out all the possible ways that diffrent intervals interact witheach other within diffrent keys,as this will also help with other questions you will have when you further your interval studies. p.s. also check out how they relate within diffrent chord structures and not just as single note lines.
