Every possible sequence of notes has been given a scale name somewhere sometime but Id just look at the minor pentatonic and major scale at first while learing chords as well as possible. The major scale is just the do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do thing. You can pick it out by ear. Lessons from a good player are really valuable, Ive been taking lessons from a local jazz performer for 3 or 4 years now. I should have done that when I first started playing.
