how do tell if the chord played is a down stroke or up stroke when playing by ear thanx

The easiest way is to first determine whether or not you are in a vertical position in relation to said guitar you are attempting to eminate sound from. If you are, then down stroke will be down providing you dont become inverted along the way, in which case down will revert to up. This can be beneficial to you because if the next stroke you are to play is opposite of the previously played stroke, you are right where you need to be ! Now who said that learning the guitar wasnt easy......:>).......HAHAHAHAHA
