Question

Asked by Elisa on 2000-05-04
I have metal strings on my guitar right now, my dad said they were for beginners, softer or something, but they are really killing my fingers, can I put nylon ones on it, or would I have to get a differnt nut or what? My fingers need help!

What kind of guitar do you have?? Acustic or electric or a electric acustic?? If your guitar is acustic you can use nylon strings , but if is electric you need the metal because is the metal that makes the distortion on the magnetic field of the pickups and produces the sound .

It is advisable not to put nylon strings on a steel strung guitar as this could damage it.

Play at least 15 min a day and get used to the pressure on your fingers!

go to your local music shop and pick up a set of "Ernie Ball Slinkies" strings. I had the same problem when i started out. These strings are metal, but they are much easier on the fingers and sound better than nylon strings

if acoustic go for it, if electric use thin leather gloves if sound is crap with the leather gloves use band-aids or hide it with pedal sounds

lower the strings at the bridge with the tool thing

mike turner is the only one that I think had a rational thought it just takes practice and nylon strings are not for beginers they are for playing clasical guitar which is somthing that that idiot wouldnt be able to grasp in a million years

which kind of string is softer on fingers? Steel or Nylon? Does the kind of guitar have anything to do with it? Or is it all depend on the tension the guitar produces?

Jus play with what you have, but before you are ready to play... put wuperglue on the tips of ur fingers (the part you play with) and it hardens them until you get callace enough to live without it...
